Cost per lead: what lead lists really cost

A cheap plan with unusable data is expensive. Compare the cost of leads you can actually contact.

Plan price is misleading

Two tools with the same monthly price can give you very different value. What matters is how much you pay for each lead you can actually use.

Calculate cost per usable lead

Cost per usable lead = total cost ÷ number of leads that meet your criteria and have the contact details you need

Example: a 1,000-lead export costs $30. 650 have an email and fit your niche. Cost per usable lead = $30 ÷ 650 ≈ $0.046.

What to count as "usable"

  • in your target niche and location
  • has the contact method you'll use (email, phone, owner name)
  • not a duplicate or existing customer
  • valid email (if emailing)

Hidden costs

  • Your time cleaning, enriching and deduplicating
  • Extra tools for email finding or verification
  • Unused subscriptions in quiet months
  • Failed runs that still cost credits
  • Bounces that damage deliverability

How Prospect Cheap prices

One credit per lead received. Failed searches cost nothing — credits reserved for them go back. Enrichment (emails, owner names, socials) is included. Plans: Starter $29 for 10,000 credits, Growth $79 for 50,000, Scale $199 for 200,000.

Compare fairly

Run the same search — same niche, same city — in each tool you're considering, then calculate cost per usable lead for each. That's the number that matters.

Frequently asked questions
