The best time to send cold emails

There is no magic hour — but there are good habits. Here is what timing actually changes.

Timing is about your reader's day

The best time is when your prospect is likely to read email with a minute to spare. That depends on who they are.

Local business owners

  • Trades (plumbers, roofers): early morning before jobs, or late afternoon.
  • Clinics and offices: early in the working day, Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Restaurants: mid-afternoon, between lunch and dinner service.
  • Salons and gyms: weekday mornings, which are usually quieter.

Creators

Creators often work odd hours. Weekday mornings in their time zone are a safe default; avoid upload days if you know them.

SaaS founders

Founders check email constantly. Early morning or late evening often lands when they process their inbox. Avoid launch days.

Agencies

Mid-morning Tuesday to Thursday, when they plan the week's work.

Use their time zone

Sending at 9am your time is 6am somewhere else. Group your list by city or state (the columns are in every export) and schedule each group in its own business hours.

Spread sends out

Sending hundreds of emails in one burst looks unnatural to inbox providers. Spread sends across a window of several hours and keep daily volume per inbox modest. See deliverability basics.

Seasons matter more than hours

Accountants in tax season, florists before Valentine's Day, HVAC in a heatwave: busy seasons beat any time-of-day trick. Check the "good to know" note on each industry page.

Test your own data

Split a list in two and send at different times. After a few hundred sends you'll know more about your audience than any general study can tell you.

Frequently asked questions

Monday inboxes are crowded for many people, so Tuesday to Thursday is a common default. Test with your own audience.
